Facts   :

The Term

"Street children" refers to children for whom the street has become their real home. A street child is not necessarily homeless or without families, but rather a child who lives in situations where there is no protection, supervision or direction from a responsible adult.
The public view of a street child in many countries is overwhelmingly negative. These children are some times wrongly judged, and are seen as nothing but, trouble makers, thieves, prostitutes, and drug addicts. There are laws that protect these unfortunate lives, but how can these laws be enforced when these kids have no protection, supervision, direction and a responsible adult to lead them?
Pocket picking is one of the daily activities of some street children, thus ending them up in the hands of the law. Majority of street children do all kinds of jobs to make a living. Street children are products of child labor and sexual abuse.

At Reach Out For a Child, we recognize that the street child is entrepreneurial, tenacious and intelligent. But, need our help.

Just like all other children, they are entitled to education, healthcare and protection, but their access to all these is often denied. The streetchild is however at risk being caught up in a cycle of poverty. The street child needs a responsible adult in their lives, to offer guidance, hope and support. But most importantly, the street child must be given choices and opportunities to build their own future.
